$2 Dream

When the 649 jackpot is really high I like to buy a ticket. It's kind of silly that I buy a ticket when my chances are (even) lower than usual but it's something I like to do. Since I buy them so infrequently, I always think about what I would do with the money once the ticket is in my hand.

Here's my plan: take care of family first then travel the world with my husband and daughter. Then I would start thinking about where to live and what to invest in.

What would you do with $14 million dollars?

  1. Our dream house (this beautiful yellow house on Willard Street in Swansea) is up for sale. It came up for sale in the summer at $1.3 million, and the lottery just happened to be at a large amount. It seemed like fate, so I bought a ticket. Obviously, we didn't win.
I thought our house wouldn't be back on the market for a long time. But, lo and behold, it is again, now at $999,000 (a bargain, really). So, I will be buying another ticket in hopes that we could own our dream home. I haven't thought much beyond that. Except of course for escaping to a hot climate for at least two weeks. Now that would be a dream!

  3. $14 million is a lot, let's see...
First, I would buy some decent real estate in strategic locations all over the world: Paris, Vancouver, New York, Italy, New Zealand, Mexico, and some politically stable South American countries. Then of course I would travel. Obviously take care of my family. Open a resort somewhere in BC. Open an animal rescue centre on a huge piece of land somewhere. And finally live off the proceeds of my investments.

There, now you're making me wanna buy a ticket too, lol

  4. 1. Move my grandmother out of her downtown apartment... if I can. She loves it there and refuses to move.
    2. Take care of the rest of the family... of course.
    3. Buy us a sprawling bungalow either in the Kingsway or on Mississauga Road (very country feeling there).
    4. Buy a summer home in Chester, Nova Scotia.
    5. Invest the rest and live on the interest.

  6. I love this topic! Of course we'd take care of our family (paying off mortgages and such). I'd spend at least one more summer just watching my kids play in the backyard. Then, in the fall, I'd get a part time nanny and go back to school part time. Michael would start up the comic book and gaming store of his dreams. We'd buy a modest cottage nearby like the one I grew up with in Manitoba. We'd also take over Ric's steakhouse here in Sherwood Park and invite all of our friends and family out for dinner. Oh and we would re-do our wedding. When the kids are a bit older we'll travel (hmmm... maybe we'll take the nanny with us).

  7. Okay my turn to dream....

1st - Set up trust funds for my 3 precious nieces and of course wee Nate
2nd - Give my brothers and parents a large chunk
3rd - Help out old friends
4th - Buy a lovely old house that we could afford to fix. Could be in Toronto or Bedford Nova Scotia
5th - Buy a beautiful waterfront cottage either on the Georgian Bay or Nova Scotia
6th - Give to my fav charities and have more time to volunteer
7th - Travel the world...1st stop Ankor Wat in Cambodia, then India and Sri Lanka. Then see Europe...I have been to many places in the world but not Europe. An annual trip would be a must
8th- I would still work because I love my job as a teacher, but I could be flexible and take off a year here and there
9th - Go shopping because I must say that I want to burn my Lululemon pants as I have worn them for the past year non-stop.
10th - Decorate my house... and landscape my scary backyard!

  8. To add to your list of dreaming friends...I'd first give my parents a big lump of that to repay them for my very expensive education, then I'd buy a place on Vancouver Island or the mainlaind where my family and I could vacation every year, I'd like to walk into Selfridges or somewhere in Belgravia and buy a really expensive, beautiful handbag and show those saleswomen bitches that just because I'm wearing jeans doesn't mean I can't be grandiose and worth the trouble to wait on, then I'd buy a flat here in London, perhaps in my neighbourhood here in Crystal Palace, but more likely in Zone 2, say Islington, and then I'd invest the rest! Very predictable, but this was fun!
